Identifying a Need

The need to develop resources on Long COVID for primary care health professionals became apparent early on during the COVID-19 pandemic. Long COVID has also underscored the importance of improving the clinical assessment and management of numerous associated conditions, common in Infection-Associated Chronic Conditions (IACCs) and other Complex Chronic Conditions (CCCs).

Collaboration

The commitment and dedication of individuals and various organizations first made it possible to design a basic training course on Long COVID. It is the fruit of collaboration between many people, several of whom wear multiple hats: people living with Long COVID and other IACCs and CCCs, physicians, healthcare professionals, and researchers, as well as education and communication professionals.

The Starting Point

Long COVID, like other IACCs and many CCCs, requires an approach that takes into account both the complexity of the clinical picture and the gaps that remain to be filled in scientific understanding—from pathophysiological mechanisms to management interventions.

Development of a Conceptual Framework…

Developing this training program was, much like the conditions it addresses, a complex undertaking. Its concise format required in-depth reflection and the development of an appropriate conceptual framework to enable a structured organization of the current knowledge and the clinical approach.

… and a Training Course on Long COVID

Since knowledge about long COVID is evolving rapidly, the accredited interactive training course “COVID longue : les bases” 🗗, (currently only in French) available to healthcare professionals in Québec on Caducée🔗 from the Fédération des médecins omnipraticiens du Québec (FMOQ), focuses mainly on clinical assessment, which is more enduring.

What’s next

The training course is one piece of a larger puzzle aimed at improving the recognition, assessment, and management of IACCs and CCCs.

Objectives

Complementary to the training course, this website has two objectives:
